The following section presents summaries of notable cases the Commissioner has investigated over the years. It is intended to provide guidance on the types of issues the Office examines and how complaints have been viewed in the past.
The summaries are categorized according to the section of the Act to which they pertain. They may also be searched by year of publication. This is included to help researchers quickly review all the precedents related to their section of interest.
These summaries are intended to provide examples for public education purposes, but we do not post all findings under the ATI Act.
* Please note that the Records Disposition Authorization period on investigative files of special interest is five years, and 21 years for cases that went to court.
